Workshop on Monitoring Technologies
ASC presented two communications at the Workshop on Monitoring Technologies, organised within the MoDeRn project between 7-9 June at the Université de technologie de Troyes, France.
The MoDeRn project aims at providing a reference framework for the development and possible implementation of monitoring activities and associated stakeholder engagement during relevant phases of the radioactive waste disposal process.
The MoDeRn project is supported by co-funding from the European Atomic Energy Community's 7th Framework Programme.
An oral presentation entitled 'Microseismic monitoring of the engineered environment: developing the technology across disciplines' provided an overview of the latest tecnologies for the passive monitoring of microseismic events induced in rock and rock-like materials subject to stress changes imposed by the engineering of the medium. Examples were presented of applications to a wide range of disciplines and scales from hydraulic fracturing and reservoir monitoring in petroleum, enhanced geothermal systems, mining, radioactive waste storage, carbon dioxide storage, engineering and laboratory testing.
A poster was presented summarising ASC's projects with direct application to the monitoring of radioactive waste geological disposal facilities and feasibility studies.
