ASC at ARMA Symposium 2010
ASC presented two communications at the 44th U.S. Rock Mechanics Symposium and 5th U.S.-Canada Symposium which took place between 27 and 30 June 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The conference is a technology exchange program, consistent with the ARMA mission to stimulate discussion and communication bringing together the expertise of different industries in the area of geomechanics—rock mechanics, rock engineering, and rock physics.
An oral presentation entitled 'Enhanced Imaging of Hydraulic Fracturing through Induced Seismicity' presented a series of techniques to enhance the information provided by microseismic monitoring of field rock fracturing through increasing imaging resolution, greater processing efficiency and meaningful interpretations of the induced fracture network by using more efficient algorithms to extract greater numbers of locations and by using seismic source parameters in advanced analyses.
A poster floor presentation entitled 'Microseismic validation of jointed rock models in cave mining' presented an integrated approach to investigating the mechanics of rock fracturing during cave mining operations combining microseismic monitoring and numerical modelling simulations.
In addition to ASC communications, Matt Pierce of Itasca Consulting Group (Minneapolis) gave an invited presentation on Fracture Network Engineering and Marisela Sanchez of Itasca Houston co-chaired a session on Induced Seismicity, and Neal Nagel of Itasca Houston co-chaired a session on Coupled Processes. Itasca co-founder Charles Fairhurst provided a special presentation entitled "Looking Forward" on the first full day of presentations.
